Module 7: CEO 101: Vision, Finance and Management Basics

Organizations need some basics to get going and to stay going.  Why is your ministry needed?  What are you creating?  How will you manage and run it?  Your ministry needs intentional and clear vision, strong financial wherewithal, and vital management considerations.  No context is identical, but setting clear benchmarks to allow assessment of progress and movement toward sustainability is critical.

How much time should I set aside for this module?

There are approximately 1.5 hours of content and 3 hours of exercises that facilitate the application of content.

What exercises are in this module?

Apply this content through a cash flow panning exercise to build a strong financial reality for your new ministry today and in the future. There’s also an opportunity for graded reflection that examines benchmarks, as well as financial commitment and personal investment in church plant.

 

Module 8: Matching Structure and Values: Covenants, Bylaws and Governance

The ways of being church shouldn’t define the future of church.  The church is an institution with good, faithful people who are often all too human.  Too often we unable to embrace change, let go of the past, and see all that is possible. How do we avoid creating the systems that limit the potential for our new ministries?  How do we ensure that the values we hold are reflected in the structure we create?

Videos as well as handouts about governance structures, decision-making, and commitments toward healthy processes.

How much time should I set aside for this module?

There are approximately 1.5 hours of content and 4 hours of exercises that facilitate the application of content.

What exercises are in this module?

Apply this content through creating bylaws and decision-making procedures. There’s also an opportunity for a graded reflection on what permission-giving structures look like for your ministry and intentional actions to prevent structures that stifle energy.

 

Module 9: More Money: Fundraising and Grant-writing

Ministries of the future will likely embody streams of income outside of those in the community. Social enterprises and unique ministry models may benefit from the myriad of grant opportunities. They didn't teach you grant writing in seminary?  Not to worry. Explore the process of seeking funding from the networks for social good in the world.

Apply this content through beginning the process of identifying and creating what you need to kick start your future funding.  There’s also an opportunity for a graded reflection on what sustainability looks like for your ministry and your plans to work toward it.
