|  Whether you call yourself a part-time, bi-vocational, or tent-making pastor, being called to a ministry assignment with a part-time compensation package is not easy. The same goes for a congregation that has had a long history of fulltime clergy and now must make the decision to pay their minister part-time. This is more than just a financial transaction; churches and ministers must wrestle with congregational and denominational expectations, and how to balance family and outside employment. Rev. Rev. Robert LaRochelle is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and the pastor of Congregational Church of Union in Union, Connecticut. He is also a fulltime high school counselor. He received his DMin from Chicago Theological Seminary.
